A 39-year-old man is charged with two counts of capital murder after two bodies were identified in debris of a Tuscaloosa County house fire, according to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.

On Tuesday, Capt. Jack Kennedy said Patrick Campos was arrested and charged in the deaths of Shelli Wallace and Eric Hatter. He is in jail with no bond.

Campos' arrest comes after a weeks-long investigation into a house fire that occurred in the 1900 block of Garber Street in the Holt community and was discovered on May 11. The fire was not reported to authorities, so the exact time of the incident is unknown, but investigators believe it occurred in the overnight hours between May 9 and May 10.

Kennedy said Wallace and Hatter were the residents of the mobile home. Family members had come to their home to check on them after days of no response by phone. When they got there, they found the mobile home burned to the ground and contacted Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived at the scene and contacted the Violent Crimes Unit after discovering the remains of two people in the fire debris. Kennedy said evidence gathered at the scene suggested foul play. Campos was developed as a suspect after testing was conducted on the items in evidence.
